Every seventy years, on the Winter Solstice, there’s a disturbance in Norwich. A small group of friends gather, roused from their deep sleep by the cold winter winds. Normally they can be found submerged beneath the ground, their shells forming part of Norwich’s historic buildings, and being brought food by the tiny Scraglets in exchange for warmth by their sides at night. When these benign creatures wake, they join together around the oldest of their members and discuss what they’ve witnessed during their time apart.
